Stripped the forks down for my 350 rebuild today and noticed 2 odditities.
First was that there was hardly enough oil (drained from BOTH fork legs) to fill a teacup, and second was that the damper pistons and their assembly were different.

Picture here:

The piston on the top one has 2 steel discs with a rubber disc in between them, and the piston on the bottom one has a single-piece steel cylinder.
Additionally, the valve plates (thin disc with holes in) were in different positions, with one side on top of the piston and the other one below it.

So which is correct please? The line drawings in the manuals are too vague as to assembly sequence, although it does look like the piston should be a single piece.

Thank you very much Steve, that picture tells me everything I need to know.
It looks like the top one was a bodge job, and the bottom one was assembled the wrong way with both the valve plate on the wrong side and the chamfer on the piston the wrong way round.

Coupled with the lack of oil, I think the ride and handling on this must have been terrible. Small wonder the previous owner sold it.
